Freshly Picked - Tin Sparrow
29 August 2010 by Max Easton
We've been running this Freshly Picked section for a good few months, and until now have focused mostly on relatively established acts with little following on Australian shores. This time around however, we're featuring Sydney newcomers Tin Sparrow, a four-piece folk/pop troupe previously playing under the moniker of frontman and songwriter, Matt Amery. This is an act who can seriously not be picked more freshly...it's more like selling the seed, except that they've polished off an awesome new track in the form of 'The Boat.' I think I lost track of that metaphor. Take a listen to our stream of said track before the jump.

The Boat (by Tin Sparrow)
If you're listening right now, or have listened, then surely you realise exactly why we've kinda shaken up the whole YouTube video/streaming track make-up of previous Freshly Picked articles. If not, then the correct answer is because it's pretty friggin good. With earnest vocals and lyrics from Matt Amery, acoustic guitars against subtle slide moments and a harpischord melody flittering over the top of the dense atmosphere formed by drum and bass, 'The Boat' is an impressive debut that marks the starting point of what is no doubt set to become a great first record.
While you're waiting for that record to drop, you can catch the band live at Oxford Arts Factory on the 16th of September or the Cafe Lounge on the 19th. Stick around Soulshine in the months to come as we bring you more news from Tin Sparrow and their upcoming release.
