Getting your hands on Splendour in the Grass tickets

Missed out on Splendour tickets? Given up hope on scoring resold tickets -- or the illusive camping tickets -- because the festival is only a few weeks away? We here at Soulshine HQ have been following the system pretty closely and have plenty of friends who have been keeping an eye on Moshtix to try and get event or camping tickets, and most have been successful with a bit of perseverance. So to that end, we've got a few tips for you to try and get in on the Splendour action.

1. You gotta be in it to win it.
Keep checking back regularly. Tickets are becoming available all the time. 30,000 sold in a matter of hours two months ago, and it's only natural some people will change their mind or run into other problems along the way. There's bound to be plenty that can't get the time off work, didn't get camping tickets and are selling their event-only tickets, couldn't find cheap flights, or maybe their friends lucked out and they don't want to head along all on their lonesome.

2. There's a time and place for everything.
Tickets may appear at seemingly random intervals on the Moshtix website. But there's not necessarily any need to be constantly refreshing your browser. We've heard that just after lunch on weekdays is a pretty good time to be checking in. Around 1-2pm is what we've heard. Sometimes Fridays have had tickets lingering into the night, probably because the average Splendour punter is out on the town after a week of frantically refreshing their browser. It's worth checking the Moshtix site on your phone or at the Internet cafe between pubs or clubs.

3. Event only.
Event only tickets are pretty readily available as many bail upon realising just how far from anything Woodford is. It's not ideal, but if you really want to be there and have a group of good mates it's not hard to divvy up the designated driver duties -- the festivities get underway on Thursday the 29th (with the bands starting the following night) and run through to the 30th. That's four nights, so a carload can easily maximise their fun while being responsible on their return journey home or to nearby accommodations. Once schedules are out you'll be able to work out days you do and don't want to have a few drinks. Some party up a storm for their favourite bands, others prefer to stay stone cold sober, so often this can work either way.

4. Pray for an upgrade.
A variation on the above, but if you're desperate for camping tickets but know that above all you just want to be there, it's worth grabbing the event-only tickets and hoping that you might find something better down the line. Of course you'll pay a service fee upon reselling those event-only tickets, but that's all part of the deal.

5. Slow and steady wins the race.
If you have a bunch of friends still trying to get tickets, grab what you can when you can. If you can buy one or two tickets, buy them and hope that down the track you'll find more for sale. If you don't have any luck you can bite the $20 service fee, or just be bad friends and make new ones at Woodford.

Worst case scenario, head along to a few sideshows (Brisbane is fresh out of luck in this department), or check back with Soulshine over the Splendour weekend for all our updates as the festival unfolds.
