Gypsy & The Cat national tour dates
3 September 2010 by Soulshine News
After playing the main stage at Splendour in the Grass, plus supporting The Strokes and Foals on their Australian tours, Gypsy & The Cat will be back in Australia next month to play the national Parklife festivals plus their own shows on the ‘Time To Wander’ tour this September and October.
Currently being spun on radio across the country, ‘Time To Wander’ is a taste of the Melbourne duo’s debut album GILGAMESH, due for release this summer.
Signed directly to Sony RCA in the UK, the duo of 22-year-old Xavier Bacash and 24-year-old Lionel Towers only began making music together a year ago in a garage in Melbourne. After writing, performing and producing their debut album themselves, Gypsy & The Cat enlisted David Fridmann (of Mercury Rev fame and producer of MGMT, Flaming Lips, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to name a few) and Rich Costey (producer of amongst others, Muse, Mew, Franz Ferdinand, Glasvegas) for final mixing duties.
Influenced by a mixture of musical legends ranging from Fleetwood Mac to Jeff Buckley and modern DJs from Justice to Daft Punk, Gypsy & The Cat make perfect summer sunshine music. ‘Time to Wander’ is a lush song that combines contemporary electro with folk-pop and soft, warm vocals with a catchy cosmic hook. It has a tranquil retro vibe and is a slice of instant and endearing dream-pop that has already entered into Triple J’s top 10 most played via high rotation.
“This dreamy, epic and luscious soft rock is radio- and remix-ready, just in time to soundtrack the Summer. Bam.”… Steph Harmon, The Brag
“The Melbourne duo’s taster single is bold stuff. Allowing for bombastic rolling stadium drums and hollering indie pop howls” ...NME
“This band is like a pot of synth gold at the end of the pop rainbow. I pretty much had a flashforward to singing this chorus at a bus stop in five years time, because This. Song. Sticks.”...Neon Gold
