The Black Ryder Announce Shows in Melbourne and Sydney

Having just wrapped up a nation-wide tour supporting 80’s post-rock legends The Cult, Sydney’s The Black Ryder are heading off for a couple of headline shows in the breaks of their support slots with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Black Cab.

If you haven’t heard of the Black Ryder yet, you should have heels worn raw from kicking yourself. Nominated for the inaugural Rolling Stone Australia awards as Best New Act, and finding themselves in the list of the same publication’s Albums of the Year for 2009’s ‘Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride,’ The Black Ryder have proven themselves as one of Sydney’s greatest new forces in Alternative Rock. Playing a style of music loosely described as a combination of shoegazing, acid, prog-rock, they evoke the sounds of Mazzy Star, Brian Jonestown Massacre and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, all of which seed their own very distinct style. And now they’re coming to visit.

Playing a variety of dates in Sydney and Melbourne in support of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Black Cab, they’re playing their own intimate sets in the same cities whilst on tour. This firms up as being in all likelihood, their final Australian shows for the year as they begin planning to tour overseas in light of the foreign release of ‘Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride.’

You can catch the Black Ryder on the following dates:

29th May 2010 – Headline Show

Ding Dong Lounge, Melbourne, VIC

3rd June 2010 – Headline Show

Club 77, Kings Cross, NSW

16th July 2010 – w/Black Cab

Oxford Arts Factory, Sydney, NSW

28th July 2010 – w/BRMC

Billboard, Melbourne, VIC

1st August 2010 – w/BRMC

The Metro, Sydney, NSW

ROLLING STONE AUSTRALIA: “Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride is sprawling, slow-burning psyche rock that paints creeping moods with layer upon layer of drony, blissed-out guitars and ethereal vocals”, and The Brag stated, “The Black Ryder pull out a brain-scything melody and drag you off into the ether with all the power of a secular preacher on a deranged mission to find your inner soul.”

MUSIC AUSTRALIA GUIDE: “Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride is a permanent sunset leading in a dangerous and balmy night ahead; like an alternate soundtrack to David Lynch’s Wild at Heart.” 4/5 stars.

SIDESTREET SYDNEY: “Hauntingly melodic, The Black Ryder have achieved the kind of sound that takes artists years to perfect.”

SOULSHINE - “With an album like this, secrets don’t get kept for long enough for you to second guess yourself. The Black Ryder have arrived with a debut that will undoubtedly be the benchmark for the duration of their existence.” 4.5 / 5 stars
