West End Carnivale Announcement
6 April 2010 by Emily Burton
The West End Carnivale is back! Bringing to you another incredible selection of bands, selectas, circus freaks and masked marauders in Brisbane's biggest masquerade party ever..
On Saturday May 15, 2010, the West End Carnivale will host over 50 acts featuring a mighty gypsy reggae line up, at the fantastic riverside grounds of Souths Leagues Club at Davies Park, Brisbane.
As well as promoting an amazing lineup of world music, West End Carnivale is all about promoting the local artists of Brisbane. Last year's inaugural event was highly successful, drawing over 2000 patrons and performers and established the Carnivale as Brisbane's most original new festival.
After the amazing second line up announcement, the line up now stands as:
The Bamboos (Melb), Juke Baritone & the Swamp Dogs, Dubmarine, Laneous and the Family Yah, Kingfisha, The Grass Roots Street Orchestra, Tiger Lil, Darky Roots, Tibet to Timbuctoo, Bessy Lou, Graffiti MCs, The View from Madeleine's Couch, Blind Dog, Paua, Nick One, Truth Serum, LUVS, Opiuo, Scuba D, Sunshine Sound System feat KP & Switch (NZ), Mojo Juju & The Snake Oil merchants (Melb), The Big Burlesque Show feat. Viola Vixen & Lola the Vamp, Eva Strangeglove, DJ Ben Osborne, Viola Vixen's Burlesque Workshop, Woohoo Review, Dr Sketchy's Anti Art School, Boxy Lucha, Hoopla Clique, Rio Rhythmics Carnivale Parade, Basmati, Apex, SkaFace, Martini 66, Juddah, Obeah
The Carnivale draws its inspiration from the Brazilian and Caribbean tradition and encourages all performers and patrons to mask up, or come in a costume. It's tradition for Carnival goers to come in masked or costumed gangs – and this year the festival will offer a truly excellent West End Carnivale compilation CD for those who come and add to the colour.
This year, Rio Rhythmics will return with their famed costumed dancers and percussion ensemble to form the nucleus of the Carnivale parade. They will be joined by fire dancers and roving performers to create what is undoubtedly the festival highlight.
The Carnivale will also feature an outside bar and a food and crafts markets.
West End Carnivale is all ages and under 12's are free!
