Emily Burton quick-fire reviews Trampled: The Elefant Traks Remix Album.
After eight years churning out the most straight talking, confrontational hip-hop to come out of Australia, Sydney based label Elefant Traks has let its own artists loose on one another. Featuring The Herd, Unkle Ho, Urthboy, Hermitude, Combat Wombat and label pal Pasobionic in his TZU and Curse ov Dialect incarnations, Trampled is a great buy for all hip-hop fans, from the casual radio listener to the core of the hip-hop underground.
Infused with elements of dub, blues, and even the gypsy sound of Waiting for Guinness, the music has a distinct Elefant Traks flavour throughout. The CD also includes the original album version of The Herd’s ‘I Was Only 19’ with John Schumann, omitted from the first release of the album. This is a nice full circle for the label which created The Herd from the artists on its many compilations.
