What is Soulshine?

Soulshine is a youth-oriented music website, primarily supporting Australian and NZ independent music. Founded in July 2004 and launched April 2005, Soulshine is an online community that brings together like-minded people through music. The site hosts an extensive artist database; live reviews; CD reviews; interviews and much more.

What makes Soulshine special is that right from the concept stage, it has been run by volunteers: people who simply believe in the site and what we hope to achieve. The initial idea came about on the Xavier Rudd fan forums, when a group of young people decided to create a site which catered for music fans of many different artists. Everything, from the role of the site, through the design of the logo and even the name, ‘Soulshine’, was discussed and created by people brought together by music.

Soulshine has continued to evolve to meet the needs of our members, and now features links to social and community initiatives targeting key issues. Soulshine has made a commitment to support the national depression initiative and use our community emphasis to educate members about suicide prevention.

Soulshine has demonstrated that music breaks down barriers between people from a diverse range of social and cultural backgrounds. It has created friendships, as well as opening doorways for people to be introduced to new music, and to promote independent musicians. We look forward to what the future brings, and what we can achieve as a community.
