Loren

"If people relate to my music and it creates a feeling, or even expresses their own thoughts in some way, then I'm happy"
Fuelled by his distinctively powerful yet gentle vocals, his style is eclectic and drawn from experiences, culture, community, emotion and an open mind. He delicately balances self-expression and audience connection with his skillful lyrical imagery, communicating his inquiries into his own thoughts so vividly, that you can’t help but make the journey with him. He works his guitar with his unique melodies delivering a dynamic performance of 'deeply grooved' folk ballads to driving reggae rhythms.
2005 has seen Loren with two successful New Zealand tours, a run of east and west coast shows with Lior, a sold out national acoustic tour with Carus, and constant touring of Australia covering the east and west coasts along with Tasmania, South Australia and Northern Territory. Loren has received local & national airplay including Triple J and has shared the stage and/or bill with other fellow folk & roots artists such as The Beautiful Girls, Mick Hart, Mason Jennings, Paul Greene, Gorgeous and Ash Grunwald. Previous highlights include huge receptions at the ‘Woodford Folk Festival’ and ‘Folk Rhythm & Life Festival’, winning a notable State Music Award (QLD) and jamming with Xavier Rudd on stage at the ‘Perth Botanical Blues and Roots Festival’.
Born in New Zealand and raised in Perth Loren was surrounded by a musical family and began writing and recording music by the age of ten. He then fronted original West Australian band Motherfunk’, which also consisted of Carus and Paul Keenan (Eskimo Joe) marking the start of his professional career, before deciding to move east to rediscover his solo acoustic roots.
From small country towns to major cities Loren’s constant touring has been evidently fruitful as his fervent fan base continues to grow. With two albums to date, ‘Loren’s Homebrew’ and ‘Live N Kicking’, his eagerly awaited third album ‘Community’ is currently in the process and set for release in November.
He will be hitting the festival circuit this Summer appearing at the ‘Bridgetown Blues Festival’, ‘Queenscliff Music Festival’ and ‘Folk Rhythm & Life Festival’. Exchange a moment with this inspirational acoustic song smith and his
music……..and you will be enticed back for further exploration.
Loren and the Grow Your Owns will join the grey nomads of Australia this March and April and set out the road on a seven week national tour to launch the new album ’80 k’s an hour’.
Carus & The True Believers, Loren & The Grow Your Owns and Rob Sawyer are jumping on the tour bus together for their second annual ROOTS ROADSHOW. In its first year THE ROOTS ROADSHOW hit VIC, SA and TAS but due to its huge success and popular demand round two is going national with the support of TRIPLE J’s “Roots n All”.
This April sees Loren touring nationally with his band ‘The Grow Your Owns’ to launch the impressive new album ‘Slow Burn’. The new songs have been previewed by Australian audiences over the recent months at live shows and have been greeted with open arms by fans and media alike. The first single ‘On By Day’ has just hit the airwaves around the country receiving instant rotation on Triple J.
