Chocolate Strings

Last updated: May 23, 2008
Chocolate Strings

Chocolate Strings have been described as one of Brisbane’s finest purveyors of grooved out dub. Their soulful tracks have captured the attention of many. Their diverse backgrounds and influences give them a smorgasbord of sounds, a veritable buffet of fresh beats, bass and acoustic grooves to please the most discerning appetite. From the rich deep Polynesian vocal styles of female vocalist Ofa Fanaika to the fresh rhymes of MC Peter Potta, these cats serve up a set where the only thing you can be sure of is leaving with a smile on your dial and sore legs from dancing.

The Strings first formed for “Black n White Unite” a charity fundraiser for West End Community House, and they have been keeping up the spirit of unity throughout their involvement in the local community and music scene. The Strings’ laid back approach has been the key ingredient to keeping their music true to its roots, and they have performed at numerous charity events in their short two year existence.

Over their two years together Chocolate Strings have been picking up momentum, securing a strong following from gigs at venues like The Zoo, The Sound Lounge and the Great Northern, They have been honoured to share the stage with artists such as The Black Seeds, King Tide, Kooii and Rastawookie, to name a few.

Their versatility means that you can see them kicking large shows as an 8 piece band right through to stripped back acoustic shows as a 3 piece, playing with roots artists such as Juzzie Smith, Toby and Mick Hart. At the moment they are currently in the midst of completing their much anticipated first album “Carnival”, their demo EP having already gained a fair amount of airplay and been the feature record on local radio station 4zzz.
