Alex Hallahan is an Australian artist who lives in cultural and artistic hub, Melbourne. He is receiving recognition as a songwriter of the times both nationally and internationally. Influenced by folk, blues, country, soul and rock, Hallahan's music encompasses the tradition of storytelling with unique melodies and an achingly soulful voice.

Hallahan's debut album ‘The Turning Wheel’ was released in September 2008 and has received radio airplay on Australia's Triple J along with independent and community radio stations Australia wide, including influential Melbourne stations Triple R and PBS FM.

Recently featured by Neil Rogers on his ' Australian Mood' show (Triple R), Rogers said that the album "is becoming one of my favourites of the year" and that it "sounds more like an artist's 2nd or 3rd rather than a debut".

Title song 'The Turning Wheel' has received recognition with Neil Young's Living With War website as a 'Song of the Times' reaching a position within the top 50 and 'Good Conversation' recently made it through to the Shortlist in the judging process of the Australian Songwriters Association's Songwriting Contest.

Hallahan can be found around town performing as a solo artist or with his bassist, Al Smith. For the album launch Hallahan was also joined by talented Melbourne musicians Ben Smart (drums), Seb Andrade (keys, sax), Katrina Szetey (french horn) and Lachlan MacLeod (additional vocals).

'The Turning Wheel' is an absolute feast for music lovers. Hallahan's pen has been dipped into many shades of ink to bring this diverse play list, this is not a mono genre album by any means. 10 tracks full and nine lives spent - a folk, alt country and soul blend of tunes rich in story with an underlying pulse that keeps the wheel turning. This self produced work, is steeped in sounds that can only be described as a signature style, it is the uncompromised result of a true artist.

BACKGROUND:
Originally from Canberra, Australia Alex Hallahan grew up in a family of entertainers. His dad was a radio announcer and mum a dance teacher. Immediately drawn to the performing arts as a child he waited patiently in the wings for his chance to step out onto the stage. Alex was the child who quite literally got lost in the costume basket. In his early twenties he gave focus to performing the music he was writing and began his career as an acoustic solo performer, at heart a songwriter writing just to let it out, but always at home as a performer.
