The Evan Alexander Band

February 23, 2007

The Evan Alexander Band
Article by Soulshine News
After what can only be described as a colossal 2006, The Evan Alexander Band are already hard at work replicating the same feats for 2007. Last year saw the band performing 100+ shows, of which only 7 were here in Brisbane.
Now, with a touch of irony, these eternal road warriors will be playing what can be considered a rare hometown show, at the Troubadour on Sunday February 25. Along with Liam Griffin, The Evan Alexander Band will be supporting indie darling Tecoma, The east-coast has become quite a playground for the EAB, hitting all stops in the last few months, from Sydney to Canberra, Melbourne to Byron Bay.

New Years Eve saw the trio delighting a capacity 300+ crowd at the Bellingen Federal Hotel, where the guys entertained the masses into the wee hours of 2007. This was backed up by an equally packed performance a couple of hours later, NYD at the Coast Hotel in Coffs Harbour. With several shows at the Yamba Grand Pacific Hotel already under their belt for 07, the bands tracks are deeply entrenched on the coastal road.

On a different note, February has seen the band finally settle down and enter the studio to record their highly-anticipated and long-awaited debut release. The guys are currently bunkered down with production wizard Jeff Lovejoy in the local Blackbox Studio.

All signs point to a May release date, so fans can start to get excited about having the opportunity to take some of the EAB’s unwavering live energy home with them. As aforementioned, the show @ The Troubadour will see The EAB supporting solo starlet ‘Tecoma’ (aka Amira Pyliotis). Hailing from the nation’s heart Alice Springs, Tecoma shot to fame in 2005 after the release of her debut 4-track EP, City Folk. The release was quickly picked up by national broadcaster Triple J, with track ‘AEIOU’ spending several weeks in the Net 50, and going on to feature on the 2005 Home and Hosed Compilation. Since then she has played alongside the likes of Ben Lee, Sarah Blasko, the Cat Empire, Jeff Lang, Xavier Rudd and silverchair, and has toured Australia extensively, as well as trekking through Europe. Recently she beat out over 500 applicants to receive APRA’s Professional Development Award, cementing the fact that she is one of Australia’s finest folk artists.
