The Pyramid Rock Festival held over the New Years Eve period at scenic Pyramid Rock, Phillip Island, is fast becoming as big as The Falls Festival. With its impressive line-up and picturesque locale this year's festival was anything but a cheap imitation.  The weather was fine, the board shorts/bikini clad crowd was pumped and the sea air was buzzing with a massive party vibe.

Highlights from the mainstage included:
End of Fashion and The Beautiful Girls playing as the sun set on Saturday, followed by the most anticipated band of the weekend, silverchair. Whilst playing a solid set, with plenty of new stuff (including Paul Mac on keyboard), the group seemed to leave fans dissapointed by a lack of old school hits.

After a powerful performance by Sunk Loto, Sunday saw the festival kick back and relax with Ash Grunwald, Xavier Rudd and Bomba capturing the festival spirit. Pyramid then flexed its hip-hop muscles with TZU and Ugly Duckling both delivering stellar performances which had the crowd enthralled. Our sympathies are with solid hip-hop fans who, due to poor festival programming, had to choose between Ugly Duckling on the mainstage and Bliss n Eso in the 'Pharoah's Annex' (doof tent).

Highlights from Pharoah's Annex included:
Crazy Penis with a Denise Drysdale lookalike on lead vocals (I was hanging out for Pluck-a-Duck), Mushroom Giant and festival favourite, at least for the glo-stick fans, That 1 Guy banging out hits on what looked to be a plumber's wet dream.

Kudos must go to The Living End who brought us into 2007 with a blazing set of solid hits that had eveybody moving.

Props to the organisers for a great event.  With an abundance of facilities, huge Royal Melbourne Show style bar and portaloos as far as the eye could see, there was no cause for any complaints.

Being in a beach setting, Pyramid departs from the usual festival attendees (with hippies being few and far between) and caters for a much younger, schoolies/surfer crowd. But having said that, if you find yourself quoting Borat (high five! sexy time!) and launching into a spontaneous cricket game every two minutes, then this is the festival for you.
