The Waifs - A Brief History
August 11, 2006
The Waifs first live release gives you that warm fuzzy feeling you get when meet up with an old friend. For an independent band that has spent the better part of 12 years on the road, playing everywhere from dingy pubs, to Bob Dylan support slots in America, A Brief History is a nice summary of the bands achievements to date.
Sing along favourites Gillian and Spotlight are absolute standouts and sit nicely in amongst a strong collection of newer and older material (plus an obligatory Dylan cover) that capture the sizzling harmonies (and occasional bung note) that the Waifs are renowned for. The Waifs paved the way for Australian independent artists such as John Butler and Xavier Rudd to succeed in the mainstream and A Brief History is a perfect introduction for new Waifs fans and a great reminisce for older fans. Check it out.
